When you are hot, you are simply hot. designer Joseph Altuzarra knows this well, earning a well-deserved buzz after the showing of his Spring 2014 RTW Collection. Altuzarra borrowed from collections of the past featuring exotic draping, ethnic influences, and women’s Fashion influenced by men’s wear. Altuzarra stated, “This idea of effortless ease of a shirt and a skirt, bits of patch working, soft layering, and handwork that’s done in a humble way,” while explaining the influence behind the collection before the show. The techniques he used to infuse men’s wear into the collection included “Boro”, a japanese technique used by farmers and anglers to patch clothing with rags.
Altuzarra also deconstructed men’s shirts creating draped, long skirts, attaching dangling strings, which created the perfect disarray of sensuous fashion. Altuzarra walked the fine line perfectly between a genius mess and a disheveled appearance. Deep v-neck shirts and button down skirts are a common sight in the collection. The layered perfection of the tops, complete with patches, gives the clothing a clear identity. The leather collection is appealing and a perfect complement to the dangling strings of the clothing line. The draped and tied dresses are sexy and chic with high slits over the thigh.
